Switched Source Inc. has raised $17.0M to help utilities squeeze more out of the power lines they already have. The company builds power-electronics hardware for electric distribution systems, aimed at boosting reliability, efficiency, and the amount of renewable energy a legacy grid can absorb.
The round drew backing from Cubit Capital, ABB, Emerald Technology Ventures, Red Cedar Ventures, Southern States, and Southwire Company - a mix that leans heavily toward strategic players in the power and utility space. Switched Source says its technology is designed for both traditional grid infrastructure and distributed energy applications, giving utilities and microgrid operators a way to modernize without a full rebuild.
