Sightera Biosciences, a techbio spin-off from the University of Antwerp and its hospital, has raised $3.4M to advance its AI drug discovery platform. The company is pioneering a next-wave approach by transforming patient-derived biology into generative small molecule design, aiming to create first-in-class small molecules with distinct mechanisms of action for targeted patient populations.
Built on more than a decade of translational research, Sightera Biosciences develops proprietary, clinically correlated drug-response datasets. These datasets are crucial for training its AI algorithms, which then generate biomarker-driven small molecules. The Belgian firm's current focus areas are oncology and fibrosis, translating academic insights into a discovery engine built for clinical relevance from day one.
