Shorta, the mobile-native series platform, has announced it has secured $6.0 million in a recent funding round. The company specializes in delivering vertical stories from real creators, offering fiction specifically designed for Gen Z audiences on mobile devices, aiming to redefine digital storytelling for a new generation of viewers.
This capital infusion marks a significant milestone for Shorta as it focuses on creating immersive, short-form narrative content optimized for smartphone consumption. The company was co-founded by a team with extensive experience in media and technology. Tomás Escobar is known for founding Cuevana, which achieved over 15 million monthly active users in Latin America. Ariel Arrieta co-founded NXTP Ventures, managing 200 AUM with 36 exits and 8 unicorns, and Digital Ventures, which was acquired by FOX Newscorp. Oscar-winning film and advertising producer Armando Bo, from Rebolución and About Entertainment, completes the founding trio.
The newly raised funds are earmarked to accelerate Shorta's content development, expand its creator network, and enhance its proprietary mobile-first technology. This investment underscores confidence in Shorta's vision to capture the attention of Gen Z, a demographic increasingly consuming entertainment through mobile-native formats. The funding will support the company's operational growth and its efforts to scale its unique content offering, ensuring a robust pipeline of engaging vertical series.
With this funding, Shorta is positioned to further solidify its presence in the evolving digital entertainment landscape. The company plans to leverage the capital to drive innovation in mobile storytelling and expand its global reach, aiming to become a leading destination for vertical series content tailored specifically for younger audiences and their mobile consumption habits.
