The burgeoning field of stem cell therapeutics just saw a significant infusion of capital, with Phoenestra GmbH announcing a $190.0M Series A round. The German company is building out an end-to-end approach for a broad range of stem cell-derived products, from xeno-free induced pluripotent stem cell lines to extracellular vesicle preparations.
Phoenestra is establishing GMP laboratories for cell banking and manufacturing of (pre-)clinical study material, aiming to develop stem cell-derived therapeutic modalities. The Series A capital will support its work on engineered "universal" stem cell lines and iPS cell-derived differentiated cells, both currently in development.
