The quest for sustainable protein alternatives just got a $5.7M boost, as Aardaia, a startup pioneering "domestication on demand" for new crops, announced its seed funding round. Investors Point Nine, FoodLabs, Astanor, Grey Silo Ventures, and a syndicate of angel investors backed the company.
Aardaia is harnessing the vast biodiversity of the plant kingdom to develop crops suited for modern challenges. Its flagship product, the aardaker, is a nitrogen-fixing tuber positioned as a "protein potato" – a high-protein alternative to legumes and potatoes that promises the yield of a tuber with the protein density of a legume.
