Seville-based Vaxdyn has raised $12.8M in a Series A round, a significant infusion for a biotech tackling one of public health’s thorniest problems: antibiotic-resistant infections. The funding, backed by Biovance Capital, Andalucía Innovación y Desarrollo, and the EIC Fund, marks a vote of confidence in the company’s multi-pathogen vaccine platform.
Vaxdyn’s lead candidate, KapaVax, targets three of the World Health Organization’s most urgent “superbugs”-Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii-which pose particular risks to hospital patients, the chronically ill, and the immunocompromised. The company, which became the first Spanish biotech funded by CARB-X in 2020, is now positioned to push its work further, aiming to curb antibiotic reliance through a One-Health approach that spans high-risk populations globally.
