Urban Neighborhood Initiatives (UNI) is thrilled to announce the successful raising of $1,300,000 in funding to further its mission of revitalizing urban neighborhoods and creating safe, vibrant spaces where communities can thrive. Founded in 1997, UNI operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, strategically focusing on individual neighborhoods to establish collaborative frameworks for renewal. Based in Springwells Village, a dynamic area in southwest Detroit, UNI has built a reputation for its sustainable initiatives, including the Youth Apprenticeship Program and the Southwest Urban Arts Mural Project, which engage local youth and provide them with enriching experiences.
This significant funding boost will be directed toward expanding existing programs while launching new initiatives aimed at community beautification and social inclusivity. Investments will enhance the All Saints Neighborhood Center (ASNC), a cornerstone resource that has served the community for over two decades, facilitating educational and recreational opportunities for both children and adults. The funding will also support the Southwest Rides Social Purpose Bike Shop and the Summer at the Center Program, allowing UNI to create more avenues for residents to engage and participate in community activities.
With this infusion of capital, UNI reaffirms its commitment to fostering neighborhood environments that encourage residents to live, work, and play sustainably. The organization looks forward to continuing its essential work, driven by the belief that when neighborhoods thrive, cities thrive. Thank you to all our supporters—together, we are lighting the path toward a brighter future for Springwells Village and beyond.
