South Africa’s venture capital scene just got a new player with serious backing. Mamor Capital, a black women-led early-stage growth fund, has raised $18.8M from the Public Investment Corporation, the country’s largest asset manager.
The fund plans to deploy the capital into post-revenue South African businesses using technology to widen access to connectivity and financial services. Mamor Capital takes a gender-smart approach, betting that who allocates capital shapes which companies get a shot at growth - a stance aimed at broadening an investment ecosystem that remains heavily skewed.
