Fibraterre has raised $2.0M in seed funding to scale its insulation panels made from wheat straw. The Normandy-based company produces boards that are entirely bio-sourced and held together without glue, resin, or any chemical binder - the straw is compressed cold and kept in shape by a stitching system.
The round drew backing from UTC Alumni & Side Angels, Normandie Participations, Bpifrance, ADEME, the Normandy Region, and the European Union. Fibraterre's panels are designed to insulate against both cold and heat while remaining breathable, making them compatible with older buildings, and they come in conventional panel formats for easier storage, transport, and installation. The company says the panels suit both new construction and renovation, including filling between timber framing, acting as a render base, or external insulation under render or ventilated cladding.
