Trillium Renewable Chemicals has raised $13.0M in a Series B round, backing its push to make a key industrial chemical from plant-based feedstocks instead of fossil fuels. The company is developing technology to produce acrylonitrile and acetonitrile from renewable sources like glycerol, positioning its output as a drop-in replacement for a chemical used in everything from carbon fiber and nylon to acrylic fibers and nitrile rubbers.
That breadth of applications gives the startup a wide runway: its green precursor could eventually show up in apparel, automotive parts, toys, and water treatment systems, helping manufacturers chip away at sustainability targets without redesigning their supply chains. The fresh capital arrives as demand for lower-carbon intermediates grows, though the company has not detailed how it will deploy the funds.
