Quercus Biosolutions has pulled in $5.0M in seed funding, a bet that generative AI can finally make biology-based crop protection practical and affordable at scale. The round was backed by Serra Ventures, Starshot Capital, Flyover Capital, Rootstock Capital Management, and the Iowa Corn Opportunities Fund.
The company is attacking a widening gap in agriculture: traditional chemical crop protectants are hitting regulatory walls and losing consumer trust, while the pressure to feed a growing population under a shifting climate keeps mounting. Quercus is applying genAI to design biological alternatives that are both effective and cost-competitive, aiming to give farmers tools that don't force a trade-off between performance and environmental responsibility.
