Ore Energy has raised $43.0M in a Series A round, backing its push to commercialize iron-air batteries that can store electricity for up to 100 hours.
The Dutch startup, spun out of TU Delft, is targeting a stubborn gap in the renewables buildout: what happens when the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine for days. Its technology flips a simple chemical reaction-converting rust to iron when charging, and back again when discharging-to store power using only iron, air, and water. That avoids the lithium and cobalt supply chains that constrain conventional batteries. Ore Energy already connected what it says is the world's first iron-air battery to the grid in Delft in 2025, a proof point for a system designed to undercut other long-duration storage on cost. The fresh capital will help move that pilot toward broader deployment.
