The race to pull carbon from the atmosphere just got a $20.0M boost, with Charm Industrial announcing new investment from JPMorgan Chase. The startup is deploying a fleet of mobile fast pyrolyzers to convert agricultural and forest biomass residues into bio-oil and biochar, aiming for permanent carbon removal.
Charm Industrial, which began after a 2020 breakthrough in bio-oil sequestration, has already removed over 7,200 tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent for customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft. The company also emphasizes transparency, leading the industry with a public ledger and a robust verification model for its carbon removal efforts.
