The pursuit of novel therapies for chronic inflammatory diseases just received a major financial injection, with clinical-stage biotechnology company Abivax announcing it has raised $920.0M. This significant capital will propel the continued development of its lead drug candidate, obefazimod.
Abivax is currently evaluating obefazimod in Phase 3 clinical trials for moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, and plans to initiate a Phase 2a trial for Crohn’s disease. The investigational, orally administered therapy is notable for being the first and only molecule designed to enhance microRNA-124 (miR-124), a natural regulator of the inflammatory response, potentially establishing a new therapeutic class.
