Whelix has raised $5.4M to build what it calls the physical validation layer for AI-driven biology. The company makes robotic systems that automate mammalian cell culture end-to-end - incubation, liquid handling, imaging, protocol execution, and cell monitoring - combining purpose-built hardware, computer vision, digital twin simulation, and agentic software.
The pitch rests on a gap: as AI speeds up discovery in the digital world, every new hypothesis, molecule, and therapy still has to be validated in living cells, and cell culture remains one of the most manual, variable, and failure-prone workflows across drug discovery, cell therapy, and biomanufacturing. Whelix aims to turn that work into reproducible, 24/7 lab infrastructure so scientists can run more experiments and generate more consistent biology.
