Bringing electricity to over a quarter-million people in Sub-Saharan Africa, WeLightAfrica has secured $30.7M in new capital from investors including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), AXIAN Group, SAGEMCOM, and Norfund. The company, founded in 2018 by Axian, Sagemcom, and Norfond, operates 186 mini-grids across Madagascar and Mali, with expansion underway in Nigeria and the DRC.
WeLightAfrica is known for its innovative and sustainable model, specifically designed to meet the energy and socio-economic needs of rural communities. Its work directly contributes to 12 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, fostering job creation, improving education, and empowering women, earning it recognition as the first B Corp-certified company in Madagascar.
