Ten billion business cards are printed every year, chewing through an estimated six million trees. Transfyr, a startup offering a digital alternative, has raised $25.0M in seed funding to push that paperless pitch further.
The round was backed by General Catalyst, Lux Capital, Breakout Ventures, and a host of others including Factory, Neo, SV Angel, MVP Ventures, Underscore VC, and Lyda Hill. Transfyr’s app replaces the physical card with a QR code that lets users swap updateable profiles and organize contacts into groups-no reprints needed when a job title or phone number changes. The company is betting that the convenience, plus the environmental angle, can chip away at a habit that costs the average person $149 a year.
