Pushing the boundaries of gene therapy beyond traditional viral vectors, Spot Biosystems has secured $40.0M in new funding. The biotech firm is developing an extracellular vesicle (EV) delivery platform designed to safely and effectively deliver genetic medicines that viral vectors cannot, while also avoiding issues like immunogenicity and toxicity.
The capital will further advance Spot Biosystems' next-generation non-viral gene therapy, which is capable of serial dosing. Its lead program, targeting Duchenne muscular dystrophy, is already in human trials, showcasing the platform's potential to address complex genetic diseases.
