Sapiom has raised $35.0M in a Series A round, a bet that AI agents won’t get far without a financial backbone to act on their own. The funding, backed by Dragonfly, Accel, Anthropic, Gradient, Coinbase, and a roster that includes Menlo Ventures and VanEck, positions the startup as the plumbing for what it calls the "agentic economy."
The pitch is straightforward: agents can reason and chat, but they’re stuck until they can pay for things, manage wallets, and pass compliance checks. Sapiom builds that layer-KYA, spending controls, and multi-rail payments-so agents can transact across APIs without a human in the loop. With this cash, the company is hiring engineers in San Francisco to scale that infrastructure, aiming to make programmatic commerce the default for AI-driven deals.
