Revitalizing a Gold Rush Legacy: Ballarat City Council Invests $1.1M in Future Innovation

Ballarat City Council is thrilled to announce a successful funding raise of $1,100,000—a pivotal milestone that reinforces our commitment to the growth and enrichment of this vibrant city.

Ballarat, one of Australia’s largest inland cities and the third largest in Victoria, has a storied history shaped by the mid-19th Century gold rush.

This legacy continues today as our city is celebrated for its beautiful parks, charming tree-lined streets, meticulously cultivated European gardens, and heritage architecture of both national significance and international interest.

Spread over 740 square kilometres and including neighbouring townships such as Buninyong, Miners Rest, Learmonth, Lucas, and Cardigan Village, Ballarat remains an essential hub in Western Victoria.

With a diverse and thriving community of over 100,000 residents—as recorded by the ABS Census in 2017—the city thrives on premium employment opportunities, world-class education including two major universities, affordable housing, and a rich selection of restaurants and retail options.

The newly raised funding will be strategically allocated towards enhancing community and civic infrastructure, preserving our historic landmarks, and elevating public spaces that reflect the culturally inclusive spirit of our city, which lies within the traditional lands of the Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung people.

Our initiatives will also focus on bolstering accessible health services, promoting the arts, and expanding community programs that nurture a high quality of life for all residents.
