QPICs, Inc. has raised $6.0M in a seed round, a bet on its pitch to be a faster, more flexible foundry for photonic integrated circuits. The company, which describes itself as a "Fast Flexible PIC Foundry," is targeting a slice of the semiconductor supply chain where speed and customization are increasingly in demand.
The funding arrives as photonic chips-which use light rather than electrons-gain traction in data centers, sensing, and other high-bandwidth applications. QPICs' approach appears aimed at shortening development cycles for customers who need tailored designs without the long lead times typical of traditional fabs. Details on who led the round or how the capital will be deployed were not disclosed.
