Pretect Devices Raises $644,000 Seed Round for NICU Patient Safety

Pretect Devices Pty Ltd, a medical technology company, has successfully raised $644,000 in its latest funding round.

The Perth-based firm is developing the Vedette®, a continuous monitoring system designed to detect and prevent infiltration and extravasation injury in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients, which often results from IV line leakage.

This capital infusion marks a significant step for the company as it advances its innovative medical device towards commercialization.

The Vedette system aims to address a critical unmet need in neonatal care.

Under current standard practice, NICU patients commonly suffer IV leakage-related injuries, leading to severe and debilitating long-term conditions.

These can include chemical burns, extensive scarring, and, in extreme cases, amputation.

Pretect Devices is developing the Vedette, in consultation with healthcare providers, to completely prevent these devastating outcomes.

This funding round underscores investor confidence in Pretect Devices' mission and its progress.

The company emerged from the winning team of the 2021 Perth Biodesign for Medtech course, subsequently secured two New Industries: Innovation Booster Grants, and graduated from Medtech Actuator Accelerator cohort 8.

Most recently, Pretect Devices was named a WA Innovator of the Year Finalist in 2024.

The newly secured capital will be instrumental in advancing the development of the Vedette, supporting further clinical validation, and navigating regulatory pathways.

Pretect Devices plans to use these funds to accelerate its growth initiatives, including expanding its research and development efforts and strengthening its team.

The investment will enable the company to move closer to its goal of bringing the Vedette to market, ultimately improving patient safety and outcomes for vulnerable NICU patients.

This strategic funding positions Pretect Devices to solidify its presence within the rapidly growing Perth Medtech sector and beyond.
