The elusive challenge of teaching autonomous vehicles to understand human intent just got a fresh injection of capital. Perceptive Automata, a startup tackling what's often called the hardest problem in automated driving, has closed a Series A funding round, securing $16.0M.
Founded in 2016 by a team of Harvard and MIT researchers, the company develops its SOMAI™ (State of Mind AI) product to enable self-driving cars to read the intentions and awareness of pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users, aiming for safer and smoother real-world deployment.
