Embedded payments platform Payload has raised $9.0M in a Series A round backed by Fifth Third Bank. The funding arrives as software platforms increasingly look to turn payments into a revenue stream rather than a back-office afterthought.
Payload targets industries where payment workflows are complex, high-value, and still heavily manual. Its pitch: a single integration for inbound and outbound money movement, with granular control over pricing, fee allocation, onboarding logic, and settlement behavior. The company handles the heavy lifting around risk, reconciliation, and compliance, letting product teams skip the infrastructure grind. For Fifth Third, the bet is on Payload’s ability to embed banking-grade payments into platforms that need more than a basic checkout flow.
