Origin, a startup building what it calls the world's first general-purpose construction robot, has raised $20.0M. The round drew backing from Accel, Zacua Ventures, Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures, and Z21.
The company's AI-powered robotic system is designed to work alongside human crews and handle interior finishing trades such as drywall finishing and painting, operating power tools across multiple trades. Origin says its robots are already deployed on live job sites in New York City in partnership with general and trade contractors. The company frames the effort as a multi-decade mission to bring automation to a $2T+ industry that has remained largely manual even as manufacturing, logistics, and automotive embraced it.
