As a company dedicated to "Living Organs For Life," OrganOx is transforming the landscape of transplantation with its transportable, automated ex vivo liver perfusion device.

This groundbreaking technology, developed over more than 15 years by founders Professor Peter Friend and Professor Constantin Coussios, has revolutionized conventional organ preservation methods.

Traditionally, livers were stored at 4˚C using non-physiological solutions that primarily aimed to slow decay.

In stark contrast, the OrganOx metra® leverages warm preservation techniques that mimic the human body’s environment, continuously perfusing the liver with oxygen-carrying red cells at 37˚C while providing essential nutrients.

This innovative method not only keeps the organ functional—allowing it to produce bile, metabolize glucose, and maintain a balanced pH—but also extends preservation times and facilitates objective assessment of organ health prior to transplant.
