Pushing the boundaries of satellite technology, NewOrbit Space has secured $18.5M in Series A funding to develop spacecraft capable of operating in Very Low Earth Orbit. The company is tackling the engineering hurdles of maintaining satellites at around 250 km, an altitude less than half that of conventional orbits, where Earth observation is sharper and communications are faster.
The round drew support from a diverse group of investors including Voyager Ventures, Atlantic.vc, Lifeline Ventures, LGF, Illusian, Custos, David Kirk, and Lawrence Leuschner. NewOrbit Space aims to open what it calls a "new continent in space" by making these challenging orbits accessible.
