Nc'nean Distillery Raises $3.3M

Nc'nean Distillery, the independent organic whisky producer, has secured $3.3 million in its latest funding round.

The capital injection marks a significant milestone for the young distillery, which is known for its experimental spirits and pioneering approach to sustainable production from its remote location in Drimnin on the west coast of Scotland.

Founded and run by Annabel Thomas, Nc'nean aims to challenge traditional perceptions of Scotch whisky.

The distillery operates with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, having achieved net zero status for scopes one and two.

This dedication is evident in its use of organic barley, a biomass boiler powered by local woodchip, and innovative distilling techniques such as experimenting with different yeasts and longer mashing times.

The company's name, Nc'nean, is derived from 'Neachneohain', the Queen of Spirits in Gaelic legend.

The newly raised funds are earmarked to accelerate Nc'nean's growth initiatives and further enhance its sustainable operations.

Since releasing its first whisky in 2020, the distillery has garnered attention, with its inaugural bottle fetching a record-breaking £41,000 at auction for charity.

Prior to this, Nc'nean also introduced an innovative 'Botanical Spirit'. The distillery also welcomes visitors for tours, offering insight into its unique production process.

This investment underscores confidence in Nc'nean's vision to combine high-quality, innovative whisky production with a deep commitment to sustainability.
