MuRay Tech has raised $7.9M to build imaging hardware that sees through dense materials that X-rays can't penetrate. The deep-tech startup is developing Active Muon Imaging, which uses a controlled muon beam generated by a compact laser-plasma accelerator to produce sub-millimetre-resolution 3D images in minutes.
The company says its approach offers 100x more penetration depth than X-rays, and it's initially targeting industrial non-destructive testing for aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing, with longer-term ambitions in customs security screening and medical imaging. First Momentum Ventures, Caelora, Superangel, Mätch VC, Arcas VC, Tiny VC, and Nordic Science Investments backed the round.
