Mechanize, Inc. has raised $9.1M in a seed round backed by Nat Friedman and Patrick Collison, two of the most recognizable names in tech investing. The company builds reinforcement learning environments and sells them to leading AI labs, positioning itself as a supplier to the industry’s biggest players rather than a competitor.
The round’s backers are notable for their deep ties to the AI ecosystem-Friedman as a former GitHub CEO and prolific angel, Collison as Stripe’s co-founder-though the company has not detailed how the capital will be deployed. What’s clear is that Mechanize is betting on a niche but critical layer of the AI stack: the simulated worlds where models learn.
