IDA Sports has raised $3.0M in Series A funding from CoverFour. The company makes soccer cleats built specifically for female feet.
The idea came from co-founder Laura Youngson, who set a Guinness World Record with the Equal Playing Field Initiative for the highest altitude soccer game, staged to highlight gender inequality in sport. She noticed the women involved shared a common complaint: their cleats were painfully uncomfortable. Youngson and co-founder Ben Sandhu then spent two years working with podiatrists, physical therapists, coaches and more than 800 female players to develop footwear with custom outsoles tailored to the smaller differences between men's and women's feet, aimed at eliminating blisters, black toes and the pinching that comes from too narrow a fit.
