Hearing Diagnostics Limited has raised $1.5M in seed funding to push back against a stubborn problem in hearing care: screenings that too often tell people with hearing loss that they're fine.
The company's next-generation screener pairs a spatial listening test with a statistical framework, aiming to remove the guesswork that plagues traditional pure-tone audiogram-based methods. Rather than asking patients whether they heard a sound, the test requires them to prove they can hear at the cut-off level before receiving a normal result - an approach the company says is backed by 99.4% sensitivity. If a patient can't hear the tone, they can still try to localise it, but they'll be wrong, making the test effectively cheat-proof.
