Ensysce Biosciences has pulled in $21.0M in a Series C round, a cash infusion for the clinical-stage biotech as it pushes forward with prescription drugs designed to be harder to abuse and less likely to cause fatal overdoses. The company, listed on Nasdaq under ENSC, is developing a new class of pain medications that aim to give patients and prescribers safer alternatives to potent opioids already on the market.
The funding arrives at a moment when the overdose crisis remains a pressing public health issue, and Ensysce’s approach-engineering drugs that resist tampering and limit the effects of taking too much-could offer a practical answer. The company hasn’t disclosed who participated in the round, but the capital will help sustain its clinical work as it moves its lead candidates through the pipeline.
