Codebreaker Labs has raised $4.5M in seed funding to scale its platform for measuring what human genetic variants actually do. The Boulder, Colorado-based company edits individual single-nucleotide variants into disease-relevant primary human cells and measures their effects tens of thousands at a time.
The round drew backing from Kickstart, Buff Gold Ventures, Children's Hospital Colorado, Denver Ventures, Service Provider Capital, and Pelican Trust. Codebreaker Labs is targeting a well-known gap in genomics: of roughly 9 billion possible single-nucleotide variants, less than 0.05% are understood. Its CODEX platform pairs AI models that nominate variants worth testing with multiplexed CRISPR to map them in the primary human cell relevant to a given disease. The company was founded by the team behind Inscripta and Artisan.
