Before its eventual acquisition by Novartis, Chiron Corporation secured $1.1M in a Seed funding round. The capital infusion marked an early milestone for the American multinational biotechnology firm, which was based in Emeryville, California.
Chiron built its business and research around three main areas: biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, and blood testing. Its global footprint extended to offices and facilities in eighteen countries across five continents, a significant presence for a company that would later see its units integrated into Novartis's operations.
