Catalyst Secures €150M to Transform Data Centres into Flexible Energy Hubs

CATALYST, an ambitious EU H2020 project, is proud to announce a major funding milestone with a successful capital raise of 150,000,000.

This substantial funding infusion underscores investor confidence in our mission to transform today’s data centres into flexible multi-energy hubs, a groundbreaking initiative designed to sustain investments in renewable energy sources and drive energy efficiency initiatives.

By leveraging the robust results of previous projects, CATALYST is set to adapt, scale up, deploy, and validate an innovative technological and business framework that allows data centres to offer a broad spectrum of mutualized energy flexibility services to both electricity and heat grids.

This strategic enhancement not only supports grid stability but also significantly boosts the resiliency of data centres to variable energy supplies.

The purpose behind this funding is far-reaching. It will empower us to accelerate our development roadmap and widen our impact across various energy sectors.

The adaptation and replication potential of the CATALYST solution will be rigorously demonstrated through four pilots deployed in operational data centres.

These pilots span the full spectrum of data centre types—from fully distributed and high-performance computing (HPC) facilities to colocation centres and legacy infrastructures—as well as different architectures, ranging from large centralized systems to decentralized micro data centres.

This diverse testbed will serve as the proving ground for our innovative approach, ensuring that our solutions are scalable, adaptable, and primed to meet the evolving energy demands of tomorrow.
