The quest for truly compostable packaging that doesn't sacrifice performance or price just got a boost, as Spain's BZERO Materials announced it has closed a $1.6M Seed round. The Valencia-based startup is behind a proprietary thermoplastic starch (TPS) blend that can be processed into ultra-thin, certified compostable films, as thin as 7 µm.
These films boast strength comparable to polyethylene, superior clarity, and a neutral smell, all while being compatible with standard converting lines. BZERO, which supplies film rolls, compound pellets, and formulation licenses, is already production-ready with 300 t/year capacity, anticipating new EU packaging regulations.
