Bluecore Energy has raised $50.0M in a seed round, anchoring its bid to build floating nuclear reactors at the Port of Long Beach. The company, founded by Kofi Asante, is developing small modular, water-cooled reactors that sit on barges, aiming to supply zero-emission power to ports, data centers, and other critical infrastructure.
The round marks an early but hefty bet on a niche approach to nuclear: instead of landlocked plants, Bluecore wants to deploy its reactors where demand clusters along coastlines. Being the first small modular reactor company to set up headquarters inside a major U.S. port gives it a logistical edge, though the path from seed funding to a working reactor remains long.
