BlueBloqs Secures €1.65M to Revolutionize Urban Water Management in the Face of Climate Change

BlueBloqs has recently announced a significant funding milestone by raising €1,650,000 to further advance its innovative approach to mitigating urban challenges caused by climate change.

As an international two-year demonstration project funded by EIT Climate KIC, BlueBloqs – Circular Water Systems is paving the way for a nature-based solution that addresses the dual challenges of urban flooding and water scarcity.

With climate change dramatically altering rain cycles, cities across Europe are grappling with both the stresses of unexpected heavy rainfall and prolonged periods of drought, which overwhelm traditional centralized urban drainage and supply systems.

In response, BlueBloqs has developed a unique technology that collects, treats, infiltrates, and reuses rainwater, effectively generating water reserves within the urban fabric.

This groundbreaking approach not only helps cities manage sudden peaks in rainwater to prevent floods but also builds much-needed resilience against water shortages during dry spells.

The recently raised funds will support the construction of four functional prototypes across three countries—the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain—demonstrating the system’s capacity and efficiency in real-world urban environments.

By integrating a sustainable, circular water management system into existing infrastructures, BlueBloqs aims to revolutionize urban water management and provide an adaptable, scalable solution that can be implemented across diverse urban landscapes.
