Barocal, a startup developing solid-state cooling systems designed to eliminate polluting refrigerant gases, has secured $10.0M in seed funding. The company's novel caloric materials, based on 15 years of research at the University of Cambridge, promise ultra-high energy efficiency and a modular, scalable alternative to traditional cooling technology.
The round saw participation from investors including World Fund, Breakthrough Energy Discovery, IP Group plc, and Cambridge Enterprise Ventures. Barocal aims to address the significant energy consumption associated with cooling, which accounts for 40% of global energy use.
