Bhutan's financial landscape saw its oldest and largest commercial bank, Bank of Bhutan, secure $100K through a crowdfunding initiative. Established by a Royal Charter in 1968, BoB has been a foundational institution, even acting as the country's central bank until 1982 and remaining its sole banking institution until 1997.
Today, BoB maintains a significant presence with 54 branch offices across every Dzongkhag and major township. The capital infusion comes as the bank continues to leverage technology, including its "Mobile & Agency Banking" services launched in 2015, to extend financial access to Bhutan's under-banked and unbanked populations.
