Scott Painter and Georg Bauer, the duo behind the first used-car subscription service Fair, are back with a new bet on the model-and they’ve just closed an $8.0M Series A to back it. Their latest venture, Autonomy, has raised the round from Comafi, Magna Capital, Murchison Ventures, and Natan VC.
The Santa Monica-based company is building a turnkey platform for vehicle subscriptions, aimed at making the model a mainstream alternative to buying. Autonomy targets used cars, plus battery electric and zero-emission vehicles, leaning on partnerships with automakers and dealerships to scale profitably. For Painter and Bauer, who pioneered the Car-as-a-Service category at Fair, this is a second swing at proving subscriptions can work beyond the hype.
