The only major alumina refinery in the United States has secured a fresh injection of capital. Atalco Gramercy, the Louisiana-based operator on the Mississippi River, has raised $350.0M, with backing from Concord Resources Holdings, the Department of War, and Pinnacle Asset Management.
The facility, which imports bauxite from its own mining operation in Jamaica, produces more than one million metric tons of alumina annually, supplying both smelter-grade material for aluminum makers and chemical-grade products used in everything from water treatment to flame retardants. The round arrives as the plant looks to build on a recent $25 million-plus investment in bauxite residue management, which was designed to shrink its environmental footprint and extend the site's operational life.
