Airway Therapeutics has raised $50.0M in a Series E round, a significant infusion for a company still in the preclinical stage. The funding arrives as the firm pushes forward with its lead candidate, AT-100, a recombinant human surfactant protein D designed to treat bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a chronic lung disease that strikes premature newborns.
The company, spun out of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in 2011, has built its work around protein engineering for lung and pediatric applications. With this capital, Airway Therapeutics is looking to advance AT-100 through the development pipeline, though specifics on the next clinical milestones were not disclosed. The round’s backers were not named.
