AddLife AB has acquired UNICAM PORTUGAL for an undisclosed amount. The transaction, completed through AddLife’s laboratory and life science division, brings the Portuguese supplier of high-tech laboratory instrumentation under the Swedish group’s ownership. UNICAM PORTUGAL will continue to operate under its existing brand, with its team remaining in place to serve its customer base.
UNICAM PORTUGAL serves as the exclusive sales, service, and distribution point in Portugal for Thermo Scientific’s high-tech laboratory instrumentation, specifically in the fields of spectrometry and chromatography. The company also holds exclusive distribution and service rights for Milestone Inc.’s microwave digestion and mercury analysers in the country. Its portfolio spans chromatography, elemental analysis, molecular spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry, including Orbitrap analysers, alongside sample preparation solutions. These offerings cater to chemical laboratories across the pharmaceutical, petrochemical, research, quality control, environmental, feed, and food industries.
For AddLife, a Stockholm-based group that acquires and develops niche companies in the life science and laboratory sectors, this acquisition strengthens its presence in Southern Europe. UNICAM PORTUGAL’s established relationships with Thermo Scientific and Milestone, combined with its high customer recommendation rates, provide AddLife with a solid entry point into the Portuguese analytical instrumentation market. The deal aligns with AddLife’s strategy of adding specialised distributors that offer both products and after-sales service.
The acquisition is expected to generate operational benefits by integrating UNICAM PORTUGAL’s service capabilities with AddLife’s broader distribution network. Cross-selling opportunities may arise as AddLife introduces complementary product lines to UNICAM PORTUGAL’s existing customers, while the Portuguese company’s technical expertise in advanced instrumentation could support AddLife’s other regional operations. No changes to customer contracts or service agreements have been announced.
The combined entity is positioned to expand its footprint in Portugal’s analytical laboratory sector, leveraging UNICAM PORTUGAL’s technical depth and AddLife’s financial and operational resources. Further integration steps and potential portfolio expansions are likely to unfold over the coming quarters.
