Molins has acquired Secil, the Portuguese cement and construction materials group, for $1.6 billion. This corporate acquisition sees Molins take full ownership of Secil, a company with a long-standing history in the production of cement and a diversified portfolio of related activities across multiple international markets.

Secil, founded in 1930, is a primary cement producer in Portugal, operating plants such as Secil-Outão, Maceira-Liz, and Cibra-Pataias. Beyond its core cement business, Secil encompasses a group of approximately 40 companies involved in complementary areas, including the production of concrete, hydraulic lime, mortars, coverings, and quarrying. The company boasts a significant international presence, with operations in Tunisia, Angola, Brazil, and a maritime terminal in the Netherlands. It also holds stakes in companies in Lebanon and expanded its European footprint in 2017 with the acquisition of assets in Spain, including a cement terminal, quarries, and ready-mixed plants.

This acquisition is strategic for Molins, providing a substantial entry and expansion into the global construction materials sector. By acquiring Secil, Molins gains immediate access to established production facilities, a broad product range, and an extensive international distribution network spanning Europe, Africa, and South America. The move allows Molins to diversify its business interests and capitalize on Secil's deep market penetration and operational expertise in key regions.

The integration of Secil into Molins is expected to generate significant synergies, enhancing operational scale and efficiency across the combined entity. This consolidation aims to strengthen market positioning and create a more robust platform for future growth within the dynamic construction industry. The combined operations are poised to leverage Secil's diversified portfolio and geographic reach to meet evolving demands in global infrastructure and building projects.
