Swarmer has agreed to acquire Ratel Robotics for up to $224 million, according to a source report dated September 24, 2026.
Ratel Robotics builds unmanned ground vehicles. Its founder, Taras Ostapchuk, served in Ukraine's armed forces, and the source states that the company's vehicles had already been used for the jobs they were designed for, in the conditions they were designed for.
Swarmer is described in the source as an autonomy software company, with Ratel bringing the physical platforms.
The source states that Ostapchuk is not leaving, and that what he is receiving, and what he has signed up for until 2028, is a notable feature of the deal. The source does not specify the composition of the consideration.
The source frames the transaction as an alternative to the common founder path of building a company, selling it and walking away, and discusses questions it says founders should ask about standards and certifications, the specific gap a product fills for a strategic buyer, and what a seller actually receives in cash, stock, earnouts and a new role.
