IR Pros has acquired Prairie HVAC/R, a Winnipeg-based industrial refrigeration and HVAC company, for an undisclosed amount. The transaction brings Prairie HVAC/R under the IR Pros umbrella as an operating company, expanding the acquirer’s footprint in the Canadian market.
Prairie HVAC/R has operated for over two decades, specializing in industrial refrigeration, commercial HVAC, controls and automation, and alternative energy systems. Its technical expertise spans ammonia, Freon, and CO2 systems, with in-house engineering, project management, and electrical divisions. The company serves arenas, curling clubs, and industrial clients across Canada, and holds COR certification for workplace safety. IR Pros, the acquiring entity, integrates service providers in the mechanical and refrigeration sector, though its broader portfolio was not detailed in the announcement.
The acquisition is strategic for IR Pros, which gains immediate access to Prairie HVAC/R’s established Canadian client base and its capabilities in complex refrigeration projects, including those valued above $2 million. Prairie HVAC/R also brings factory representation for SMARDT Chillers and Distech Controls, adding specialized product knowledge to IR Pros’ service offerings. For Prairie HVAC/R, joining IR Pros provides access to greater resources and a larger operational network, which could support its continued growth in coast-to-coast service delivery.
The combined entity is expected to leverage Prairie HVAC/R’s technical depth and safety record alongside IR Pros’ broader corporate structure. The deal does not alter Prairie HVAC/R’s day-to-day operations, which will continue under its existing brand and leadership. The acquisition strengthens IR Pros’ position in the Canadian industrial refrigeration and HVAC market, with potential for expanded project scope and cross-regional service coordination. No further financial terms or integration timelines have been disclosed.
