Sphere has acquired Polyex SAS, a French family-owned polyethylene converter, for an undisclosed amount. The transaction brings Polyex under Sphere’s ownership, marking the buyer’s entry into the flexible packaging segment in France. Polyex, founded in 1991, specializes in transforming polyethylene into films, covers, sleeves, and bags, offering protective and packaging solutions across multiple industrial sectors.
Polyex has built its reputation on tailored service and long-standing client relationships, serving sectors that require durable and custom-sized packaging. Sphere, whose core business focuses on industrial packaging and protective materials, will integrate Polyex’s production capabilities into its existing operations. The acquisition allows Sphere to broaden its product portfolio with polyethylene-based offerings, complementing its current range without overlapping significantly.
For Polyex, joining Sphere provides access to a larger distribution network and shared procurement resources, which could reduce raw material costs and improve operational efficiency. The family-owned company will retain its brand identity and workforce, according to the terms of the deal, ensuring continuity for its existing customers. Sphere gains a foothold in the French market, where Polyex has established a steady client base over three decades.
The deal is expected to close after customary regulatory approvals, with no major antitrust concerns anticipated given the complementary nature of the two businesses. Post-acquisition, Sphere plans to maintain Polyex’s production site and management team, focusing on gradual integration of back-office functions rather than immediate restructuring. The combined entity will target cross-selling opportunities, offering existing Sphere clients access to Polyex’s polyethylene solutions while introducing Polyex’s customers to Sphere’s broader packaging lines. Financial terms remain private, but the acquisition aligns with Sphere’s strategy of expanding through niche, family-run manufacturers in Europe.
