Kaleris has acquired Newport Systems Inc., a provider of software solutions for the intermodal industry, for an undisclosed amount. The transaction brings Newport’s equipment management and maintenance and repair (M&R) technology under the Kaleris portfolio, which focuses on supply chain execution and visibility software.
Newport, which operates as NSi following its acquisition by Shore Points Capital in 2020, delivers SaaS-based platforms for managing M&R work orders and reefer-related services. Its NSi-MODAL technologies provide real-time event communication and business intelligence tools for equipment owners, leasing companies, terminals, and depots. Kaleris, a provider of terminal and supply chain solutions, will integrate these capabilities into its existing suite of operational software.
The acquisition is intended to broaden Kaleris’s reach within the intermodal segment, particularly in the areas of equipment lifecycle management and repair workflow digitization. By adding NSi’s specialized tools, Kaleris aims to offer a more complete platform that connects drayage, rail, and ocean operations with maintenance processes. The deal also aligns with Kaleris’s strategy to deepen its presence in asset-intensive logistics sectors where visibility and condition tracking are critical.
For NSi customers, the change in ownership is expected to bring access to a larger technology ecosystem and additional development resources. Kaleris plans to maintain support for existing NSi deployments while working to integrate data flows between the two product lines. The combined offering could reduce manual handoffs between repair vendors and fleet operators, improving cycle times for equipment return to service.
The transaction is closed, and both companies have begun integration planning. The combined entity will focus on expanding its customer base across North American and international intermodal networks, with an emphasis on enhancing data-driven decision-making for equipment maintenance.
